Donna Hanelin, published poet and writer, teaches creative writing to adults. She is based in Nevada City, California and also leads workshop-retreats in Oaxaca, Mexico. She offers classes and consultation in fiction, life stories, and poetry for beginners to published authors. Some classes are experiential, involving in-class writing practices. In other classes, the group discusses work-in-progress. All classes and retreats are limited to 6 -12 people. Donna is also available for private consultation and manuscript help.

Learn to respond more fully to creative work and to develop consideration for different forms and approaches to writing. Commentary is detailed and designed to support both the writing and the writer. Limited to six with an active interest in writing.

Time to write and to wander--take your notebook on tour in the colonial city of Oaxaca and to surrounding valleys dotted with ancient ruins, modern museums, and traditional crafts--enjoy the vibrant culture of Oaxaca, Mexico, the company of fellow writers, and the space to develop your own writing.

BIO: Donna Hanelin studied literature and art at the College of Creative Studies, UC Santa Barbara, BA and the San Francisco Art Institute. She taught art to children, developed an arts program for homeschoolers, and was director of a cultural center. She began teaching writing in 1990; she continues to create original practices and essays on writing for all her classes. She has performed her poetry and prose on stage and radio in northern California with grants from Poets and Writers, Inc. and was a founding member of the Nevada City Poetry Series. In 1999 Donna received the May Martin Goyne Award for her contribution to the literary arts of Nevada County, Ca. Her books include two books of poetry And I You, Black Rock Press, You Jump to Water, a handmade limited edition from Ediciones Agotadas, and Flight from Oaxaca, a novella, self published under the imprint Medium Slow. Donna has been offering writing retreats in Mexico since 1997 and lives part time in the city of Oaxaca.
